BRIDGE TO CAMBRIDGE DERIVE

FALL 2025

GRAPHIC DESIGN
RISO

RISO “PACKAGES”
WEBSITE
This project documents a group dérive—an open, sensory-driven drift through the city. Our “Bridge to Cambridge” route began at the BU Bridge and meandered through Cambridge, collecting architecture, graffiti, found objects, shadows, patterns, colored doors, and other overlooked details as data points; even a stop at Brookline Lunch became part of the experience.

For the final outcome, we set aside traditional mapping and translated our observations into pattern-based compositions. Through the RISO printer’s vibrant colors, misregistration, and tactile grain, the ordinary landscape of Cambridge became vivid, layered artifacts that capture the spontaneity of the dérive and invite viewers to re-see the city.

A website was made to accompany our “packages” to provide clarity and invite viewers to venture on their own derive.

In collaboration with Emma Ellis, Kitty Lin & Hannah Yu

When compiling our “data” into a map, we chose to move away from traditional mapping. Instead, we packaged together pattern derives from observations, letting the vibrant colours of the RISO printer express our experience

The RISO’s inherent misregistrations, grainy texture, and vibrant colours translated the everyday nature of Cambridge into vivid, layered artifacts that invite viewers to wander, notice, and reinterpret our dervive.

Our “packages”:

Could you tell what the prints were?
Does this make you want to explore them further, pick them apart, and create your own “package”?
